Sina ma Tinirau
When a prince is cursed to become an eel and has to win the love of a beautiful woman to become human again, he gifts her with his body in the form of a coconut palm tree in a seductive display.
Set on Rotuma in Fiji, this classic tale of unconditional love is given new meaning and relevance today as it explores issues of conservation, tradition versus freedom, and prejudice against black skin among Polynesians. Animation Director: Vilsoni Tausie Herenik
Vilsoni Hereniko was born and raised on the Polynesian island of Rotuma in Fiji for the first sixteen years of his life. The youngest of eleven children, he learned to tell stories from his father who gifted him with the oral tales of his island. Today he makes a living teaching his students how to tell indigenous stories for the screen. His first feature film titled "Pear ta Ma 'On Maf: The Land Has Eyes" was set on his home island and had its world premiere at Sundance in 2004. Seventeen years later, he tells another story set on his island about the origin of the coconut tree which his people, and many others in Oceania and other parts of the world, regard as the tree of life. Get Gulled
On a sunny beach day, a little girl eagerly awaits her sandwich at a food truck. As she enjoys the sandwich's aroma, a watchful seagull swoops down and snatches it from her hands, causing her to tumble into the sand. Determined to reclaim her meal, the girl chases the seagull, even throwing a shovel in a desperate attempt to stop it. The chase ends when the seagull crashes into a signpost, dropping the sandwich, only for a seal to eat it. Both the girl and the seagull are left watching the sunset in defeat, with the girl venting her frustration by slapping the seagull on the head.
Directed by: Matt McElrath My name is Matthew McElrath, and I am from Londonderry, New Hampshire. I have always had a drive to create works of art, but it was not until 2016 that I saw a group of creators around my age create an animated short, and I thought I could do the same thing. Now, I strive to create my own animated works of art and to collaborate with other talented artists to bring animated shorts to life and inspire others who are thinking about learning and starting their animation career, just like those creators have done for me. Whenever I am not working on an animated project, I can usually be found drawing new ideas for projects I want to work on, catching up with friends, or just casually playing video games. Hurdles
When an un-athletic dreamer's hopes of being on the track team are dashed, her negative thoughts about herself weigh her down until she is submerged in the waters of her subconscious where she can let go of them, and be her best self. A story with heart about being human.
Directed by: Pamela Oliver Munoz This animation came from a memory of one of my happiest moments that began with a loss and ended in joy. As I cut each of the zillion body parts, I infused the story with the hero's spiritual journey. Her quest is to belong but she pursues avenues that aren't suited to her, and she takes it all personally. It's not until she is plunged into her subconscious, represented by the water, that she frees her mind and finds her own power, her own peace. It's a process I wanted to show visually as a reminder to myself and anyone else. that we are not our thoughts, and that we can let go of any not serving us. Country of Origin: United States

DUBU
A short stop motion film that follows a day in the life of a South Korean young woman named Sujin and her dog Dubu, a 12 year old maltese Shih tzu cross that loves to walk, sleep, bark and receive belly rubs!
Directed by: Callum Scott-Dyson Callum Scott-Dyson is an award winning filmmaker who currently lives and works in Seoul, South Korea. He grew up making shorts in his hometown of York in the North of England, before studying film and video at the Manchester School of Art, leaving with first class honours and a rampant hunger to keep making films. After a few years making live action shorts in Manchester that screened at festivals worldwide, he pivoted to music videos and eventually found himself going back to a childhood passion: stop moation animation. He fell back in love with the DIY nature, the texture and the feel of stop motion, with building miniature sets and characters and bringing his strangest and most abstract ideas to life. He made music videos for all kinds of bands in all different genres, pushing his stop motion ability further and further, mainly working with clay and plasticine, as well as more 2d style with card cut outs, inspired by Terry Gilliam. He made videos for such recognised acts as Dinosaur Jr, Bombay Bicycle Club, Tim Burgess, Peking Duk, Fontaines DC & Pup. During this period he also lived and worked in Vietnam for 3 years, taking all this new culture and experiences and throwing that into the melting pot of his work. Callum has more recently been taking these stop motion skills and applying them to short films, making a number of mini shorts that you can see on his Vimeo channel, as well as his first complete narrative short, Tunnel Vision. |
